Callender CO.
Organ donation in blacks: a community approach.
Transplant Proc
1987;19(1 Pt 2):1551-4.

The author describes the DC Organ Donor Project, which was initiated in August 1982. The project was motivated by research that suggested a “grass-roots, face-to-face approach” toward educating blacks about organ donation “was likely to be effective in modifying black attitudes toward organ donation.” Various strategies for carrying out effective community health education related to the prevention of kidney disease and organ donation awareness are described.
